best insurance companies - How to Save on any Kind of Insurance : If we think about all the different things we typically insure, the different types of insurance can be dizzying. There’s homeowners insurance, health insurance, life insurance, auto insurance, and, if you own a business, there’s different types of business insurance.
Some types of insurance you can completely forgo, while other types of insurance you are, in some cases, required to have. With all this insurance talk, your head is probably spinning by thinking about how much money you’ll have to shell out to insure your life, possessions, health, and loved ones. While insurance can be expensive, it doesn’t have to be. Here are a few basic tips:
To keep your premiums low, file only big claims.
The purpose of insurance is to protect us from catastrophic losses. The more frequently you file claims for, say, damage to your car, the easier it is for insurance companies to raise your premiums. If you’re always filling claims, insurance companies consider you a “high risk” and will gladly hike up what you pay per month. As such, be sure that you only file claims for damage that you really, absolutely cannot pay yourself.
Get all your different insurance policies from one provider.
Getting all your different types of insurance policies from one single provider can go a long way when it comes to saving you money. Insurance consolidation can sometimes give you steep discounts while also making it easier when it comes time to pay the bills.
Don’t let an agent talk you into insurance you don’t need.
Trust me. I was once an insurance agent. Understand that insurance agents benefit from trying to enroll clients into as many different programs and policies as possible. This isn’t to say that insurance agents are trying to scam you. They’re only trying to persuade you into buying coverage that might come in hand, but, depending on your circumstances, usually won’t. Before going to an insurance agent, be sure that you do as much research as you can on the insurance and coverage amount that you think you’ll need.
Look into specific discounts that may be offered for specific categories.
Often, insurance agents forget to tell their clients about the different discounts offered. For example, some auto insurance companies will offer discounts if your children who are just learning to drive have good grades. Some health insurance companies will offer discounts if you become a certified non-smoker. As always, it never hurts to ask.
Shop around.
Although it takes more time to find the right insurance provider for all your insurance needs, it really, truly, honestly pays to shop around and do some research. Don’t just go with the big name brand insurance companies because you like their TV commercials. Look at local insurers, too.
Of course, there are many more ways to save on insurance, but these tips are a great, basic way to get you started on finding the right insurance for you that doesn’t break the bank. Good luck!
